F/town councilor shoots man to death

The Officer commanding No 1 District, Alakanani Makobo, has confirmed that they are investigating a case in which a 29-year-old man was shot to death in Francistown on Friday morning. While he could not disclose the names of the persons involved, especially because the case has not appeared before the courts of law, Makobo confirmed that the suspected thief was shot to death at Block 1 location at around 1 am on Friday. He also revealed that the man, who is suspected to have been a thief, originates from Tonota and arrangements have already been made to meet his next of kin. However, The Sunday Standard can reveal that the shooting incident involved a Francistown councilor.

Information reaching this paper indicates that the Tonota man was trying to break into the councilor’s rented house in Block 1 on the fateful morning. The tenants of the house then called the Councilor to come to their rescue and upon arrival he shot the culprit to death. Makobo also revealed that no charges have yet been preferred against the councilor as investigations are still in their infancy.

“We still have to make thorough investigations and then consult with the department of public prosecutions before we can lay any formal charges,” said Makobo.

The councilor is also helping the police with investigations but has not been detained. Efforts to reach councilor Tabengwa proved futile at the time of going to press.
