Botswana Football Association has advised Molepolole City Stars to follow all arbitration procedures in their plea to be reinstated in the elite league. After ignoring Molepolole City Stars pleas for a while, the response from BFA now clears the way for the matter to be resolved.
“We have advised City Stars to follow arbitration procedures to launch their matter so can be heard. It is up to them to follow laid down procedures to register their complaint properly’ said Pako Moakofhi BFA legal and compliance officer.
Aside from demanding reinstatement in the top flight league, City Stars are also demanding to be paid money they believed it is due to them. Before the BFA response, City Stars had threatened to interdict the start of the league until their complaint is given attention and resolved.
An aggrieved City Stars owner, Somerset Gobuiwang had engaged legal minds from Tafila attorneys to help him fight his team’s course. The legal team then wrote demanding letter to BFA seeking the matters to be placed before the Arbitration Tribunal. They gave BFA until this past Wednesday to have responded to his demands and the BFA duly obliged and responded on deadline day.
“As always we will follow the procedures. We will do that. We thank the BFA this time around for finally listening to us. We wrote numerous letters without getting any feedback from the association. At least finally they have responded’ said Gobuiwang.
On the 22 September 2021, City Stars wrote to BFA seeking for their relegation to be rescinded and for the team to be reinstated in the elite league or the matter be referred to the arbitration Tribunal but BFA ignored them, thus soliciting pressure from the City Stars legal representatives.
“We refer to the above matter and to our letter dated 22nd September 2021. We regret that we have not received your response to the letter” Thabiso Tafila of Tafila Attorneys wrote. “We are instructed to kindly request, as we hereby do, that you place our client’s appeal before the Arbitration Tribunal and advise that same has been done before close of business on Wednesday 13th October 2021” demanded Tafila in the letter dated 8th October 2021.
The attorneys then sent BFA an ominous warning advising them that “should we not hear from you or receive confirmation that our client’s complaint has been placed before the Arbitration Tribunal, we have instructions to take the matter higher-up. In that event, it might become necessary to interdict the envisaged commencement of the football season. We trust that you will act accordingly to forestall such an eventuality.”
Now with the BFA having finally responded, it remains to be seen how the matter will end.
The BFA leadership has recently been castigated for not following procedures and failing to follow the BFA constitution.
Still with the team, City players will go for Covid test to prepare for start of the season. The team want to abide by health protocols to the latter.
