Fresh wine, new bottle; An analysis of the SONA from a Motswana in the Diaspora

‘Same wine, different bottle,’ this phrase was commonly used by analysts and the Leader of Opposition alike to describe the previous State of the Nation Address (SONAs) and it has always stuck with me. Probably because there were elements of truth and in it and largely because as a wine connoisseur, I know how boring and frustrating it is to buy new wine and it tastes like one you’ve recently had and enjoyed not. I also know how refreshing new wine tastes when it hits your taste palate – you immediately want to finish the bottle and grab another one. This year’s SONA is to me just that refreshing, hope igniting and gives me something exciting to look forward to.
