Funeral brings three Bakgatla tribe together

Recently Mochudi held a royal funeral at which three of the six tribes which share the name Bakgatla were represented at the highest level. Those present at the funeral of Setobane Linchwe, the last surviving daughter of Kgosi Tlhabane were Bakgatla ba ga Mosetlha, Bakgatla ba ga Kgafela and Bakgatla ba ga Mmakau. Missing were those of Mocha, Marapyane and Mmanaana. The Ba ga Mosetlha were represented by Kgosi Nchaupe. Kgosi Tlhabane was the third son of Kgosi Linchwe I, the first being Kgafela who  predeceased his father and the great Isang Pilane whose history has been captured in many publications including Fred Morton’s book, “When Rustling became an Art”.
