Government is considering the possibility of an over arching legislation on privatization ÔÇô Finance and Development Planning Minister, Baledzi Gaolathe, told Parliament this week.
Gaolathe said, “This approach could be attractive, if such legislation could obviate the need to come to parliament on a case by case basis for each of the parastatals being considered for privatization”, as is the current approach.
The minister was answering questions from Mmadinare MP, Ponatshego Kedikilwe, who had asked how the minister envisaged the privatization policy being implemented without an over arching legislation.
The minister further explained that although some privatization activities will require the necessary regulatory, institutional and legal changes in order to be implemented, many of the privatization activities, such as outsourcing of some services to the private sector does not require changes in legislation.
