The High Court has overruled the government’s attempt to prevent a group of nurses from leaving the country to pursue further studies abroad. The decision comes after the Ministry of Health sought to block the nurses from traveling to China, where they had been awarded scholarships, citing a critical shortage of healthcare workers in the country.
The nurses, who had received the scholarships under the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) program, were set to board their flights when the Ministry intervened, leaving them stranded. In response, the nurses turned to the courts for relief, challenging the Ministry’s decision.
