Govt, Elephants Without Borders clash over alleged poaching

The government and Elephants Without Borders Director Mike Chase are likely to engage in a public spat after Chase accused the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of disregarding reports about poaching of elephants in NG15 and NG18 areas in the Okavango region.

Chase’s letter addressed to the Director of Department of Wildlife and National Parks Moemi Batshabang dated 25 July 2024, alleges that 105 elephants killed for their ivory over the past 10 months. Chase said they have identified 19 freshly poached elephant carcasses in a notorious wildlife hotspot.
