While lovers will be out celebrating their love for each other, local comedians will be putting a comedic twist on Valentine’s Day in what promises to be a rib cracking night. The show, organised by a group called ‘The other Guys’, will feature three comedians who will be doing what they know best. The show is dubbed ‘Where is my Valentine?’
One of the comedians who will be performing is 24-year-old Charles Manase who hails from Zimbabwe and seems to have made Botswana his second home. The comedian who has thus far made a mark for himself as one of the best acts in the comic scene is determined to bring more exciting and funny jokes on the night. His fans say there is never a dull moment when he is on stage. In an interview with Arts and Society he said that the main idea behind the show is to look at Valentine’s Day from different perspectives. “We will be showing the other side of the day, which is the side of it being a day not only for lovers or married couples but also the side of it being a day which needs to be enjoyed by almost everybody,” he said.
He said that as comedians their main job is to make people forget about their problems and enjoy themselves for a certain time and the only way they can enjoy the day is if there are jokes shared to brighten up their day. “Most people get stressed when this day approaches as they really have to do a lot of thinking on what to get their loved ones,” Manase said. “Others get stressed because they do not know if they will receive presents from their loved ones or maybe if they are really their Valentines and this is where we come in as we are going to make that stress go away with what we have prepared for the show.”
Manase said that the show will not only be about three comics doing what they are known for but there will also be some musical entertainment. “We have prepared a great show as there will be a musical performance by Koketso who is best known for doing great covers of well-known songs so it will be a night of comedy mixed with music and all this will be done to celebrate love but in a humorous way,” he said.
Other comedians who will be performing on the night are Bambino Ndiwenyu who has been in the comedy industry for ten years since high school and Thulani Tau who has also had his fair share of the comic limelight.
Ndiwenyu recently featured in the roast of athletics champion Nijel Amos where he left the audience in stitches when he said Amos had mastered athletics by racing with animals at the cattle post. Tau is known for his growing fan base that has been accredited to his stage delivery and his understanding of different life challenges. All three of them have had the opportunity to share a stage with other prominent comedians such as Anne Kansiime, former television personality Prince Macheng and other famous acts.
