Hunt on for Miss Independence

The hunt is on for the next Miss Independence Botswana 2010. Batswana women aged between sixteen and twenty seven, fluent in Setswana and who can dance borankana are invited for auditions to be held on the 28th August at the Civic Center in Gaborone at 11 am. Auditions are charged at one hundred and fifty pula and this year the event will be held under the theme: “A re buseng Ngwao”.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Koketso Moremi, of Linko Entertainment, who has been successfully hosting the event for the past three years, said this year the event will be held on the 24th September at Boipuso Hall as part of the Independence celebrations and will be held under the values of promoting culture.

“The winner stands a chance to walk away with P3 500 cash as well as hampers and shopping vouchers from various sponsors, while second and third prize will get P2 500 and P1 500, respectively. Contestants will compete in traditional regalia (mateitshe) and, instead of bikinis, will parade in makgabe, “knitted beads” designed by local fashion Puseletso Molefi. Questions will be asked and answered in Setswana and guests at the event will be served with a variety of Tswana cuisine.
