Inaugural Ideas Expo well received

The winners of the Ideas Expo Competition, which called on all artists to showcase their artistic skills, were on Thursday evening awarded their prizes.

The winning trio walked away with Ipad 2’s.

Tuduetso Mokgosi won under the Copyrighting category; Pat Boitumelo for Graphic design and Photography, while Thebe Radikwana took his prize under the Multimedia and Video category.
The categories were open to graphic designers, photographers, painters, poets, copy writers and videographers among many others.

Speaking at the event, Calvin Bosilong, one of the organizers, said that Ideas Expo believes in the power of ideas. He said that they believe that Ideas have the potential to grow and transform the way in which people do things.

Bosilong added that when ideas turn into reality, they have the full potential and power to translate into better economic opportunities for all those that harness potential. He further said that the purpose of their initiative is to enhance and appraise the creative talents of Batswana but not only as a tool for expression but a medium of enriching their livelihoods.

He added that they have seen that the competition was inspired by the fact that creativity in countries like South Africa plays a role in advancing people lives.

“Such an appreciation and commitment towards their creative sector is needed for the creative industry to contribute meaningfully to the lives of those involved,” he said, adding that they are also passionate about contributing towards the development of the advertising industry.

Fellow organizer, Tumisho Mabusela, said that the initial idea for the Ideas Expo started two years ago when they were still at university. He said that his love of advertising together with his fellow team mates prompted them to do a bit of research on advertising, which, in turn, gave birth to Ideas Expo.

Mabusela said that their research showed that a lot of countries had advertising that is fully operational and well regulated. He added that prior to the art competition, they hosted a conference in June that saw business people come and address the public as part of their process to grow the Ideas Expo Brand.
