If there is one thing that the nation has got to thank both Ian Khama and Mokgweetsi Masisi for, it is the fact that the two men stretched the country’s administrative systems to the limits.
Not only were systems exposed, in the end they failed the stress test.
Khama went for the media freedoms, civil rights and civil liberties. Masisi went for the judiciary – the custodian of all liberties.
Privacy was compromised. Surveillance went full force.
Their means and ways slightly differed.
The effects were the same. The life of the nation came under attack.
For seventeen odd years the nation lived through artificially overheated times.
In both instances the two men’s weapon of choice was the intelligence and security services agency.
They weaponised it.
