K-BOS is crowned king of hip hop at the YAMAs

Hip Hop artist K-bos (Kabelo Motlhatlhedi) was crowned the king of Hip Hop music at this year’s first Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAS). The rapper earlier this year released an album entitled ‘Hip Hop is Music’ and since its release the album has been doing well in the market.

The album, which has 17 tracks, boasts hits like ‘Jane’, ‘Dimakatso’, ‘Bos in me’ and ‘Superstar’ that had many of his fans excited. The young rapper has given amazing performances in every show he has taken part in and he did not disappoint once again at the YAMAS. He gave a breathtaking performance when he performed his hit ‘Garass pampiri’ and his latest song ‘Jane’ with traditional troupe Mafitlhakgosi. His performance justified the decision to crown him king.

K-bos said that he was however surprised that he won the award as he was up against strong competition. “I was up against some of the biggest artists in the industry. Some of the artists I respect and look up to are the likes of Zeus, Scar, Dramaboi and Sasa Klaas.”He said winning the award means people are now starting to appreciate what he does.

This is not the first time K-bos’ work has been appreciated as in 2013, he managed to scoop another award from BOMU for Best Hip hop and motswako album. These awards, he said, are the reason he still wakes up every day to make music.

“I named my album Hip Hop is Music as it is a fusion of Hip Hop with different genres of music. My intension was to win the hearts and support of those people who do not listen to Hip Hop music. I wanted to show them that it is music anyone can relate to as I featured different artists of different music backgrounds. I think I have managed to attract public attention,” he said.

He said that through his music he tries hard to motivate listeners to be the best they can be and forever represent their country with a positive mind. “I believe as Batswana we are capable of being the best we can be as long as we put our positive minds to those things we want to achieve. I believe my music is helping people to see that and believe in their own potential,” he said.

K-bos said that winning the award has motivated him to help other young upcoming rappers in the industry. “I am currently working on another album which will be released sometime next year and this album has Botswana written all over it. I am planning on talking it to other parts of the world to show them what talent we have. I am also working with 13 artists and we will be releasing something big soon so people will have to wait for the surprise,” he said.
