Khama summons Ministry to explain poor exam results

President Ian Khama has summoned Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Development and Skills over failure to implement some of the recommendations that could have propped up examination performances in schools.

Khama was prompted to summon Matlhare. In a savingram titled “HE Briefing” dated 17 February, 2015 and addressed to Permanent Secretary in the same Ministry, Richard Matlhare, Khama’s Senior Private Secretary Brigadier George Tlhalerwa, states that “please be duly informed that His Excellency the President has directed that your esteemed ministry should come and brief him on March 31 at 1400 hours on several issues…”

According to the savingram, the issues that need to be addressed include what the Ministry has done based on recommendations to improve discipline in schools. Khama also wants Matlhare to brief him on the introduction of social values, issues of paying teachers over time and poor examinations in Junior and Secondary Schools.
