Choppies Superstores has donated food hampers, worth P750 000, to the Lady Khama Charitable Trust, in support of the initiative that was started by the late Lady Khama, to give to soldiers who defend the country borders. However, this initiative was extended to the Police forces who take time to patrol in communities, ensuring that people property and lives are safe during the festive season.
The food hampers were presented to President Ian Khama by Choppies deputy chairman, Farouk Ismail.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ismail said they have done this as a way of supporting fellow countrymen who will be doing service during the festive season.
The foodstuffs included rice, soap, toothpaste, and juices, amongst other things.
Amongst the beneficiaries was Assist A Person charitable organization.
This is not the first time Choppies has shown commitment in assisting the needy in the country.
It is the first company that heeded the President’s housing appeal for the needy. Last year, Choppies donated P600 000 worth of food hampers to the Lady Khama Charitable Fund.
Farouk said Choppies is privileged to be working with President Khama. He commended Khama‘s kind heart, saying he has national interest at heart. Ismail promised to work together with the President to achieve his goals.
Khama appreciated Choppies for their big hearts and for having compassion for the needy.
He urged Batswana to have the same compassion for the needy.
