KAELEKAE (PTY) LTD, a 100 percent citizen-owned company, has launched KMobic a cell phone Advertising Platform, content delivery medium and social networking system.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Member of Parliament for Gaborone West South, Botsalo Ntuane, said, “The introduction of such technologies, like KMobic is a welcome development as the government of Botswana is working hard to diversify the economy.”
He noted that worldwide trends point to cell phones being the next major computing platform, hence the developing world in general, and Botswana in particular, stands to benefit greatly from technologies that make use of cellular phones.
Ntuane noted that since very few people own desktop computers in Botswana, with almost everyone owning a cellular phone, KMobic would be the best tool for communication and doing business, providing web-based services such as KMobic on cell phones and thereby making the lives of Batswana easier by offering benefits of the internet to the people without any need for them to buy computers.
KMobic is a platform where companies can advertise on cell phones through the cell phone advertiser; content providers can publish content to cell phone users and end users can access almost any content from the convenience of their cellular phones.
Ntuane pointed out that with the introduction of KMobic, struggling to find a house to rent will surely be a thing of the past. Most importantly, he said, the KMobic platform has incorporated the BTC Telephone Directory, which in itself is a major step in improving access to information.
KMobic offers a complete classifieds section with many categories, such as jobs wanted, legal notices, for sale and many other classifified categories.
It is locally developed technology that is available in both Setswana and English and the introduction of other local languages is in the pipeline. KMobic has special functions that will allow the users to personalize a lot of features that include composing messages and getting the latest information on weather, news and sport updates. KMobic can also interface with other social networks like Facebook.
KMobic was founded by a group of young Batswana who completed their post graduate studies abroad and decided to come back home to introduce this technology.
Ntuane pointed out that the introduction of KMobic in Botswana has come as added advantage for the business sector for they will be able to improve the export potential in The International Map and the tourism industry stands to benefit greatly.
Ntuane commended the Botswana Innovation Hub for partnering with local companies.
