Mobile Chess Club dominates in championships

In the 2nd round of the Metropolitan Botswana National Chess championships, Mobile Chess Club made their mark and dominated to qualify for the finals of the Metropolitan Botswana Chess Championships. Mobile Chess Club have 2 ladies qualifying for the finals whilst 3 men have qualified, totalling five qualifiers in all.

Bonyonyo has a total of 2 qualifiers, Kings also 2, Delta Pawns 2, Poisonous Snakes 3, Francistown SSS 1, Maruapula 1, Naledi SSS 2 and BAC 1 qualifier to the championship final.

After a tie in the ladies section, Bothole Kgalalelo of Kings Chess Club won due to a better tie break score.
Other qualifiers for the ladies category include Lopang Tshepiso of Mobile Chess Club, Mudongo Boikhutso of Bonyonyo Chess Club, Mbakwa Faith of Mobile Chess Club, Sedisa Otshepo of Delta Pawns, Sabure Ontiretse of Poisonous Snakes, Mokgacha Keitumetse, also of Poisonous Snakes, Seleka Thatayaone of Francistown SSS, Katisenge Keenese of Delta Pawns, Leso Gorata of Kings Chess club all qualified for the finals in this order.

Oatlhotse Providence of Mobile Chess Club was ranked first in the men’s category with 5 and half points, followed by Njobvu Ignatius of Mobile Chess Club, Gaealafswe Barileng of Mobile Chess Club, Jona Chaka of Kings Chess Club, Kamara Abdul of Naledi SSS, Pitlagano Tebogo of Bonyonyo Chess Club, Khetho Phemelo of Poisonous Chess Club, Chandna Shubham of Maruapula School, Gumpo Thabo of Botswana Accountancy College and Kokome Oaitse of Naledi SSS.

The games were played at Thapama in Francistown on 13-14 March 2010. All the qualifiers will battle it out for the 2010 Metropolitan Botswana National Championships finals to be played in April 1-5 2010.
