Police were on Friday evening deployed to guard filling stations in Mochudi after it emerged that service stations had become targets of a group of people who are said to be planning to set alight both the Shell and Engen filling stations.
Information passed to Sunday Standard suggests that some people are planning to set alight the filling stations as a way of protest.
Last month police intercepted the plan to set alight the filling stations and last week Friday night, riot police were pelted with stones by some students but the police did not respond to the charging students.
“Riot police had to be called in after some students broke into two shops, resulting in one shop having its glass door broken for the second time but nothing was stolen,” said the station commander of Mochudi Police Station, Superintendent Onneetse Gagogosha.
He said police officers had been deployed to sensitive areas that are rumoured to be targets.
Gagogosha added that this is the second time that some people have wanted to set alight the filling stations but added that they had not yet arrested anyone.
He said they will not allow any illegal gatherings and expressed hope that they would contain the situation.
