Mokgware mulls negotiating with UDC

Alliance for Progressives (AP) Chairperson Major General Pius Mokgware has been requested by a section of his constituency to go and negotiate for a possible cooperation with the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) as the general election looms.

The Gabane South East Ward which held a meeting at the weekend resolved that Mokgware who is also a Member of Parliament for Gabane/ Mankgodi constituency should initiate talks with UDC. The announcement was made by the Councilor for Gabane North West, David Pule.

“Honorable Major General is the Chairperson of the AP and therefore has the power to device means of hastening the process of negotiations in case his colleagues are planning at a snail pace. We should put differences aside as leaders and aim for solitary accord of winning 2019 elections to liberate Batswana.  We are sending you honourable MP,” said Pule to a deafening round of applause.

He cautioned that should the constituents fall to a BDP legislator all efforts made by Mokhware will go to waste.

Replying, Mokgware said in principle he welcomed the proposal.

“Even when we formed the AP we knew we would not win the elections alone without the support of other opposition parties,” said Mokgware.

He emphasized the fact that for them to perform better they need to work with other opposition parties. He said electorates in the constituency should not make the mistake of electing BDP as it categorizes places like Mokolwe in the Gabane South East as masimo.

Speaking at the meeting, Councilor for Gabane North East, Ofentse Mareme said he has worked hard to bring developments in his ward.

The Gabane South East councilor who hosted the session in his ward, Ntuka Moumakwa cautioned that in the past decades, the late Peter Mmusi, the father of the current BDP representative did not develop the constituency when he was legislator.

The session was organized for leadership interaction with the electorates and to take stock  and map the way forward. The MP, Mokgware contributed P1, 500 for it to be successful. Electorates were informed that other wards in the constituency will in the future host similar interactive sessions.
