President of the South African National Union of Mineworkers in South Joseph Montisetse who has vowed to unseat President Mokgweetsi Masisi is using the full might of the union to help the opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).
During his meeting with Botswana National front President Moeti Mohwasa and south African business woman Bridgette Motsepe’s sidekick Malcolm X in Klerksdorp two months ago, Montisetse vowed “Gentlemen, BNF is a party of my father as well, formed in 1966, and I joined this party when I was only 19 years old. I will die for this party. I’m going to use my power as NUM President to unseat Masisi and the BDP in this year’s elections.”
A source close to the union told Sunday Standard that Montisetse was currently using NUM funds, credit cards and vehicles to arrange meetings for UDC members with South African potential sponsors.
“He is by far the biggest and resourceful influence when it comes to lobbying and raising money for both the BNF and the UDC in South Africa. He fixes their meetings and links them with key people this side,” a He added that Montisetse is well placed and is able to provide assistance to the UDC himself.
“There is no doubt that the Union money is being used. He uses the South African NUM funds. The Union vehicles are also used as are the credit cards,” he added.
Meanwhile councilor for Borakalalo ward in Molepolole Arafat Khan has invited the leader of EFF (Economic freedom Front) Julius Malema for a rally on September 15.
Malema has been invited as a guest speaker.
It might be a political stunt because as it stands Malema’s entry into Botswana remains restricted.
For Malema to enter Botswana he will need to apply for a Visa.
He was banned by the Government of former president Ian Khama, who is now in a loose alliance with the UDC.
Under Mokgweetsi Masisi there have been hints at removing Malema and a few of his key followers that were banned with him from the Visa list.
But that has not yet happened.
“We note that the Economic Freedom Front Fighters leadership has been placed under Visa restriction by the Botswana Government, and therefore request that you begin the VISA application process the earliest convenience. This will allow us enough time to engage further in need to ensure that the application is successful,” says the letter.
In the same letter dated July 10, 2019, Julius Malema is requested to sponsor the event to be held in Borakalalo with two South African music artists.
