Motshidi launches scathing attack against Justice Tau

Infotrac Managing Director Mompoloki Motshidi launched a scathing attack on President of the Court of Appeal, Tebogo Tau, in a complaint letter to Chief Justice Terrence Rannowane. In the letter, quoted in a judgment read by Johan Froneman, Motshidi pulls no punches, accusing Tau of protecting Judge Singh Walia because she “professionally depends on Walia J so extensively to the point that the latter sometimes writes judgments for the former…”

At the time of writing the letter, Motshidi was in the process of filing an urgent application for recusal against the three-judge panel presiding over Debswana’s appeal against his P110 million lawsuit, citing Walia’s conflict of interest. Infotrac filed an application for the recusal of the three justices of appeal: Tau, Walia, and Froneman. The Court of Appeal (CoA) upheld an appeal by Debswana, but not before dismissing Infotrac’s application for recusal.
