Motswana student in US paralyzed following attack

A 21-year-old Motswana student studying in North Carolina, in the USA, suffered a broken neck and spinal injuries and is paralyzed from the neck down after he was allegedly assaulted at a party.

The News 14 Carolina reported this week that the Elon Police Department in North Carolina is investigating an apparent assault of Lee John Mynhardt who was left critically injured.

Police were called to a house off campus where Mynhardt was attending a party in the early morning hours of Feb. 3. Mynhardt, an Elon University student from Botswana, suffered a broken neck and spinal injuries. He is at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, paralyzed from the neck down.

Police are still interviewing witnesses and have made no arrests.
