Finance Minister Peggy Serame couldn’t provide a direct answer to a direct question posed by the Maun West MP, Dumelang Saleshando, about President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s frequent trips abroad.
Last week’s parliament began with Serame updating parliament on the economic downturn that has panicked some (top-tier economists included) and fear that Botswana could be heading into unprecedented economic hardship. She first read a prepared statement and fielded questions from MPs thereafter. In answering these questions, she happened to reveal that one of the measures that the government will implement to mitigate the current situation is to substantially reduce government-sponsored foreign trips. However, Saleshando wanted her to deal with one particular traveller.
