Millennium Jazz Rest is the place to be next week Sunday as six of the most gifted local Jazz artists are expected to perform at a family Fun Day Jazz Festival.
The six artists, Lister Boleseng and Medupe Band, Nnunu, Nono, Puna, Chedza Fani as well as the Diskhord Band, which will be backing the three lady singers, are expected to keep local jazz lovers on their feet as when they take to the stage to belt out tunes which made them local household names.
Theresa Hirschfeld, the festival organiser and reigning Ms Millennium 2010, said that the aim of the festival is to raise funds to help the elderly in Mogoditshane.
Speaking in an interview with Standard Lifestyle, Hirschfeld said she will be hosting the event to help her fulfil her promise of helping the elderly when she took the Ms Millennium crown in February earlier this year.
The reigning Ms Millennium says helping the senior citizens in need is her way of thanking them for the part they have played in building the country.
She says she has already consulted with a social worker in Mogoditshane who has confirmed that they have elderly people registered with them who need help. Hirschfeld says she expects to help as many elderly people as the funds raised will permit, saying she cannot at the moment tell the number as she is working without a budget and will depend solely on the gate takings.
She further told Standard Lifestyle that the artists have agreed to do the show without asking for any fee to help her raise as much funds as needed. She says together with the artists, they will also pay social visits to the elderly at their homes.
Hirschfeld has called upon the public and the corporate world to support her in her endeavours. With the rainy season already upon us, Hirschfeld says the moneys raised will be used to do necessary maintenance of houses of the elderly. Some of the works to be done will include plastering their houses, repairs and painting where necessary.
“The festival is going to start at around 12 and we would like parents to bring in their kids as there will be jumping castles and face painting. Parents should not worry about what the kids will eat as there will be hot dogs for sale and a buffet for adults on sale,” Hirschfeld told Standard Entertainment.
Hirschfeld is the third person to win the Miss Millennium pageant. The pageant is for women over the age of 40 and is used as a platform to show that beauty should not only be judged by age.
Entrance fee of P50 will be charged on adults while the kids will only need P10 and have access to jumping castles as well as free face painting.
