Former Mayor of Selebi Phikwe Town Council Lekang Mukokomani’s lawyers have reportedly engaged a deputy sheriff to auction the local authority’s property. This follows a case in which he successfully challenged his removal from office as mayor by the Selebi Phikwe Town Council.
It has since emerged that Mukokomani demands P1 million; he wants the council to pay him 360 000 Pula for the outstanding benefits and allowances he would have received as a mayor and 700 000 Pula in damages for loss of income, loss of esteem and political dignity for being removed from the mayoral office.
In a brief interview, the Acting Town Clerk for Selebi Phikwe Town Council, Shadrack Selelo said  as far as he knows, they have paid Mukokomani P88 000 which was due to him as per the Court of Appeal order relating to legal costs.
For his part Mukokomani referred this publication to his lawyer, Themba Joina of Joina and Associates whose phone rang answered.
In February this year, a Court of Appeal (COA) ruling put to rest a historical case in which Mukokomani challenged his removal as mayor, arguing that it was un-procedural. He was removed through a motion of no confidence.
