National Media Awards 2006

The MISA award for Sportswriter of the Year 2006 went to Chris Lepenga of the Sunday Standard. The award comes with prize money of P1500 and a plaque. Lepenga was sponsored by Multichoice Botswana.

Lesego Kgomanyane of the Widweek Sun, sponsored by UNPFA, won P1500 prize money and a plaque for her story about adolescent sexual reproductive health.

Business Reporter of the year award, also carrying a P1500 prize and a plaque, went to Joel Konopo of Mmegi, sponsored by Debswana while the Investigative Reporter of the year award went to Alpheons Moroke of Botswana Television. He was also given P1500 cash money and a plaque and was sponsored by Debswana.

Kagiso Onkatswitse of BOPA won the photographer of the year award and walked away with P1500 and a plaque. He was also sponsored by Debswana, as was the Radio Programme of the year award, which went to Boipelo Seleke of Yarona FM, wining herself P1500 plus the plaque. FM Yarona also scooped the radio newsreader of the year award through Desma Basson, who walked away with the same prizes.

Last year and this year’s winner, Lesego Mohutsiwa of Radio Botswana won Radio Presenter of the year award . He received P1500 cash prize and the plaque sponsored by Debswana.

Oteng Mokowe of Botswana Television was awarded Television Presenter of the year and he walked away with P1500 plus the plaque sponsored by Debswana and his work mate, Reginald Richardson, walked away with the same prizes for Television Newsreader of the year, also sponsored by Debswana.

The Botswana Guardian won newspaper of the year plaque sponsored by Debswana and the second runner up journalist of the year went to Kagiso Onkatswitse of BOPA, who took home a one-night-stay ticket at the Gaborone Sun Hotel.

First runner up Journalist of the year went to Joel Konopo of Mmegi and he won himself a weekend for two at the Victoria Falls Hotel supported by Hotel and Catering Magazine. Debswana sponsored him.

Overall Journalist of the year also went to Alpheons Moroke of Botswana Television. He won himself tickets for two at Mowana Safari Lodge and a whopping P5000, also sponsored by Debswana.
