“We are ready”

The Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) is promises to host a memorable Southern African Development Community regional Zone VI boxing championships tournament.

The BoBA, public relations officer, Taolo Tlouetsile, said: “BoBA is ready to host an outstanding event and with the support of key partners among them the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC) we are positive to deliver eventful competition.”

The Sports Ministry has committed P700 000.00 towards the hosting of the event. He said the support from the ministry came handy to them because the money has assisted them to need to put other demands in place so that they meet the required set standards.

Registration is on going for countries that will be participating in the competition. The BoBA is unable to figure out human athletes will be coming to Botswana. All 13 SADC countries are expected to converge in Botswana.  Including the host Botswana they are Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Comoros.

The regional boxing tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the Africa championships that will be hosted by Morocco later in the year.

The camp preprtions started on the Monday. Those called for camp n the male category are Kobamelo Molatlhegi 49kg, Mohammed Rajab Otukile 52kg, George Molwantwa and Tefo Maitewa 56kg, Treasure Moremi 60kg, Pitso Mmopieng and Kabo Seitshiro 64kg and Mmusi Tswiige 69kg in completing the male category. In the female boxers are Keamogetse Kenosi 60kg, Aratwa Kesemang 60kg and Lethabo Modukanele 48kg.

The championships are billed 23rd to 28th of April.
