‘Twelve alleged armed robbers nabbed’ – Police

At least twelve suspected armed robbers who had been terrorizing the business community in and around Gaborone were arrested by police last week.

The notorious gang had been active in restaurants and hardware outlets around the capital.

Two of the suspects are hospitalized after an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers.

It is believed that the gang of armed men comprised of non citizens who have been targeting and robbing various restaurants and hardware shops at gun point and a lot of money was stolen.

Last week in Kanye, police, through their intelligence gathering, got a tip off that about four armed men were to rob a store and police lay in wait.

When the four alleged robbers arrived, the police pounced and there was an exchange of gunfire resulting in injuries to two of the armed men and in the arrest of the other two.

Speaking to Sunday Standard, police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Dipheko Motube said at least twelve suspected robbers were under arrest.

He said the suspected robbers were found in possession of goods that include pistols, electrical items as well as air time vouchers.

“In the past weeks, we experienced and recorded several armed robbery cases that caused concern,” said Mothube.

He added that the two were rushed to Princess Marina hospital in Gaborone where they are receiving medical treatment.

Mothube, however, indicated that no police officers got injured during gunfire exchange.

“I am not at liberty at this point to reveal the identity of the suspects or their nationality because police investigations are continuing,” he stated.
