Plans to lobby Boko to declare GBV emergency gain momentum

Efforts to push President Duma Boko to declare gender-based violence (GBV) a national emergency are gaining momentum with stakeholders calling for urgent intervention. United Nations Resident Coordinator and UN Secretary-General’s Representative in Botswana, Zia Choudhury, revealed that the National Gender Commission (NGC) convened an emergency consultative forum on January 14, 2025. The high-level gathering, which brought together over 100 representatives from civil society, government, and the UN, focused on implementing decisive action to combat GBV within the next 200 days.
