Police in Maun are investigating a case in which a 28-year-old man from Kubung ward lost his ear flap after a fight with his 35-year-old girlfriend. The incident, according to Acting Station Commander Assistant Superintendent Oarabile Hulela, happened after the victim had showed up at his girlfriend’s place at around 2.30 am on August 14.
Upon questioning, Hulela said the police were told that the woman had refused to let his suspicious boyfriend in, which raised suspicions that it might have caused the misunderstanding, leading to the fight.
“We were told she grabbed his ear and ripped it off. Investigations into the matter are still fresh, and we are yet to determine if the fight was in self defence or not. We will also depend on recommendations from the doctor before laying a suitable charge. This is a serious offence, and should she be found guilty, the woman will be liable to seven years behind bars,” he said.
Still in Maun, Hulela said two cases of suicide were reported to them on August 7. In the first incident, a 68-year-old Boseja man was found hanging from the rafters of his house.
The man had asked his elder sister to prepare his bath, after which he took his life while the family thought he was bathing.
A 30-year-old man was also found hanging from a tree just a stone throw from his place at around 7am on the same day. No suicide notes were found and police investigations are on-going.
