Popa will bake Platinum for the fairer sex

Botswana Telecommunications champions Township Rollers and South Africa’s Absa outfit Platinum Stars will face off in a HeForShe match under the guise of the International Working Group on Women (IWG) on March 25.

The HeForShe international match is targeting 20 000 signatories that will help in advancing the ideals of achieving equal opportunities for both genders.

Speaking at the launch of the HeForShe match initiative, IWG secretary general Game Mothibi said they would work hard towards fighting inequalities in sport.

“People should understand that gender issues are not only for women but also help men to participate in gender issues to fight discriminatory policies. Men should also take the lead in advocating for equal opportunities in sport,” Mothibi said.

Mothibi said they expected the match to help to spread the message of gender equalities in sport. She said they wanted to have a conducive environment that would encourage women to participate in sport like their male counterparts.

Botswana National Sport Commission chairperson Solly Reikeletseng explained that they were committed to seeing Botswana becoming number one in responding positively to gender issues.

“We are committed to come up with programmes that address gender issues and advocate for equality,” Reikeletseng said.

Local artists Vee and Dr Vom are expected to provide entertainment for the crowd.
