The South African Police Service says it has completed investigations into a fatal road accident in which three Batswana died on their way home from the official opening of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
South African Police spokesperson in the North West Provence, Lt Colonel Lesego Metsi, told Sunday Standard that “the police have completed investigations into the road accident that occurred last week Sunday when the motor vehicle the deceased were traveling in collided with a truck”.
He said they had opened a culpable homicide docket, which has been sent to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA). The South African prosecuting body is expected to advice on whether the truck driver should be charged.
Three Batswana football fans last week were burnt beyond recognition when the motor vehicle they were traveling in collided with an oncoming truck.
Two of the deceased were Standard Chartered employees while the third worked for Shell Oil Botswana.
