Schools to slug it out at the BISA Rugby Finals festival

Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) through Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) will host the BISA national rugby finals festival at Wharic Park in Gaborone from the 20th until the 26th of July.

The competition is expected to be attended by at least sixteen (16) teams from BISA’s four zones, being South, South Central, North and North Central. Each zone is expected to bring two teams made up of females and males in both the junior and senior categories.

Reached for comment BISA Coordinator Tosca Segaise said given the quality of performance the athletes had displayed during the zonal competitions, they expect to see tough quality competition during the BISA rugby finals. He said there is immense competition across all the zones and you never know which region will perform the best. He however said they are not satisfied with the number of schools taking part in the sport especially in the north central and south central regions.

“The players that are participating are impressive and dedicated but until most of the schools have joined rugby, that is when we will be satisfied. For now I cannot say there are enough schools who appreciate the sport,” Segaise explained.

He further said that they will take advantage of the BISA tournament to finalise and announce the players that will participate at the Under 17 Sevens Championships so that they don’t leave excelling players behind.

Segaise added that to make that possible they will have to trim their list to 12 players because they have a large number of players on their selection. The team will then get on camp prior the announcement.

The Sevens tournament is scheduled to take place in August at a date yet to be confirmed. The team that will emerge champions at the BISA national finals will walk away with medals as the bragging rights.
