Sunday Standard accepts Mmegi apology

We would like to acknowledge the apology and retraction by Mmegi newspaper as published in their Friday edition front page of 6 March 2020.

The apology comes after years of protracted and costly legal dispute.

The offending articles penned by Mmegi Managing Director Titus Mbuya, among other things, linked Sunday Standard and its editors to the CIA. One of the articles specifically insinuated that Sunday Standard shareholders stole the late Louis Nchindo’s money. The High Court found in Sunday Standard’s favour.

Justice Godfrey Radijeng found out that: “The statements had the effect when read or understood by right thinking member of society that Sunday Standard editor Outsa Mokone and Deputy editor Spencer Mogapi were fraudsters or that they defrauded Mr. Nchindo, they were dishonest and untrustworthy. The statements in my view had the effect of injuring [Mokone and Mogapi’s] good names and reputations including their business reputation.”
