Suppliers owed P1, 3 billion in payments due to GABS system failure

The government has revealed that as of March 7, 2024, there were 14,727 outstanding supplier invoices valued at over P1.3 billion. Despite the significant backlog, the Ministry of Finance has said it diligently processed and paid over one million suppliers, totaling over P82 billion since April 2023.

Addressing concerns about system downtime, the Minister of Finance Peggy Serame assured Parliament that Government Accounting and Budgeting System (GABS) has historically performed well since its implementation in 2004. She said recent challenges have been attributed to infrastructure limitations rather than inherent flaws in the system itself.
