Tough times as Botswana’s domestic arrears balloon

Government has fallen behind its payments to suppliers and service providers by more than P100 million and the number is growing everyday – Sunday Standard has been informed.

There are fears that the government’s growing expenditure arrears caused by the “indefinite” break down of the troubled  Government Accounting and Budgeting System (GABS) will cripple the country’s private sector which is still reeling from the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The  Botswana private sector is highly dependent on general public expenditures through government contracts and on consumption expenditures by the civil service.
