There is imminent talk in government circles about setting up a National Health Insurance (NHI). However, the details of the NHI remain sketchy. For now, all we have are platitudes. We hear talk about NHI as a human right in the same manner we hear many politicians refer to education as a fundamental human right.
So the issue is not whether health is a right or not. The most important aspect is that the state and other providers must ensure that they provide good healthcare to those who need it. After all, human life is sacred.
