The digital mob – new justice system?

A month ago, no Motswana had ever heard of Megan Young. Three weeks ago, the Filipino-American actress, model, tv host and beauty queen who won Miss World Philippines 2013 title became the lightning rod of Botswana’s biggest whipping party ever. The Filipino socialite found herself at the receiving end of social media mob justice after she touched a tendril of Botswana contestant Lesego Chombo’s hair at the Miss World 2024 pageant. She received a slew of insults from Batswana who expressed their dislike at the action and brought her to order.
