The five-year term is too short – part 2

Perhaps the UDC government should have capitalised on the desperate stunt of the unemployed young man who dashed towards President Boko during his inauguration. As a sign of what is in store for the unemployed, the government could have rewarded him for his effort by securing him a job, as a one-off gesture. Given that players in the private sector are keen to curry favour with the new government, companies would trip over each other to employ him.

For the UDC government, the five-year term will be taken up by learning the ropes; reconfiguring the delivery machinery; translating its manifesto into concrete projects and programmes; preparing NDP 12, 31 DDPs and 6 UDPs; executing tenders and contending with aggrieved bidders; project implementation with its inevitable delays; and so forth.
