The government is best that governs least

It is good for our politicians to say that they care about the welfare of the people.  It is also perfectly understandable that they would, at a minimum, want to be seen to care, lest they are voted out of office.  The trouble with their caring business is that the policies they tend to follow to lift people out of poverty, are invariably wrongheaded. They are wrongheaded primarily because they treat the heavy hand of the state as the end and be all even though economic history is strewn with many failed state-led policies.   Despite that evidence to the contrary they nonetheless hang to the untenable idea of the government as the main solution to their nations’ economic problems.
