The ‘Botho College Table Tennis Championships’ that were scheduled to be held from the 5th December to the 6th December at the Debswana Club Hall in Jwaneng have been postponed to 30th January 2010 due to low registration of clubs.
Speaking to The Sunday Standard, Projects Manager, Nathaniel Rakhudu, said that no club had registered for the tournament and attributed it to the assumption that clubs might have missed the fact that the tournament was not an Open tournament but a closed one.
“In my opinion, Clubs might have missed the fact that the tournament is a Club Tournament and not an Open one. Closed tournament requires clubs to commit and register their members on time to ensure that the games are adequately planned for because this affects the system of play that has to be used during the tournament,” Rakhudu said.
He further explained that invitations were issued well on time and that the Tournament is part of their calendar of events.
“The invitation was well issued on time, more than a month before the event. The Tournament is also part of our calendar of events so Clubs were well aware of the event 12 months in advance,” he added.
During the championships, only table tennis clubs duly registered, affiliated and subscribed fully to the BTTA for the year 2009 ÔÇô 2010 will participate in the event and national teams from BOPRISA, BISA, BOBSA, BOTESSA, PASSOBO, and Special Olympics will also be eligible for participation.
Furthermore, each club is to register, at most, two teams for both men and women and the system of play shall be the Swaythling (A ÔÇô X; B ÔÇô Y; C ÔÇô Z; A ÔÇô Y; B ÔÇô X) with the participation of 3 Men Players or 3 Women Players in each match. There will also be men and women singles, men and women doubles, all of which will be double knockouts and have unlimited entries. As for the mixed doubles, partners have to be from the same club.
