The cat is finally out of the bag. Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Kenewendo has let slip that the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) government has decided that De Beers should not pay the Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) P 7 billion tax bill.
The whole country, however, missed the slip up that answered the question on Most Batswana’s lips. Not surprising: it happened 12,557 km away, about four weeks ago and only came to light last week.
