Besides posing a threat to the democratic political decision-making process of sovereign countries, free trade also enables multinationals to enrich themselves by dodging taxes e.g. by using ISDS-clauses. The reason why multinationals keep getting away with this behavior is that they have been encouraging a race to the bottom for years.
