UDC to welcome ex-top BDP guns

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) announced this past Friday that former Radio Botswana (RB) employee Moreri Gabakgorwe has joined the coalition movement.

UDC Secretary General Ndaba Gaolathe said Gabakgorwe is famed for his distinguished life-long radio career especially at the national broadcaster, Radio Botswana, where he has worked as Head of news and Head of programmes. He subsequently joined Duma FM as general manager.

“Him, and another illustrious citizen, Mr Mothusi Sekgwa (formerly Executive Secretary of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party and retired lecturer at the Molepolole College of Agriculture), also a recent arrival at the UDC, will form part of a star-studded group of individuals whom the UDC will officially welcome to the party on 14 February 2016, along with Ms Margaret Nasha,” said Gaolathe.

He added that “This is testimony to the compelling attraction of the UDC, a national movement of highly determined, capable and visionary activists and leaders who understand the need to work for the attainment of a new Botswana in which all our people will prosper and realise their best potential.  The UDC looks forward to the valuable work of these accomplished sons of the soil.”

Recently Nasha disclosed that she and other members are not happy with the way the party interferes with issues of judiciary, and she unlike these other members couldn’t take it no more. The first female national assembly speaker who has served the ruling part for 21 years says she can no longer live with a conscience imprisonment, but would rather openly debate issues.

Meanwhile, the UDC says it is delighted that Dr Nasha, has joined the party. The UDC says although Dr Nasha had pleaded to join as an ordinary member and activist, she has been prevailed upon to take on, given her experience, the role of adviser to the key offices at the level of the UDC.
