One of the most notorious female drug lords based in the capital city has skipped the country in a major setback in the police battle against drugs.
It is almost six months after Irina Leoneidovina Telegina Ramokate, age 45, failed to attend the magistrate’s court.
Detective assistant superintendent, Kenosi Tsaanang, of the drugs and narcotics squad says a warrant for arrest has been issued.
He said the suspect has not being attending court since she was granted bail by the village magistrate early this year.
“We strongly believe that the suspect might have either skipped to South Africa or her country of origin, Ukraine,” he said.
The suspect is believed to be the biggest female drug lord in Botswana, supplying the whole country with drugs. She was arrested together with three suspects, two from South Africa and one from Britain, including a 17 year old girl.
During a raid, police found cocaine, ecstasy and LSD estimated at a street value of more than a million Pula.
Tsaanang said though the Nigerians are top of the list, it has now immerged that Tanzanians are also involved in drug dealing.
Last Monday, four suspects were arrested in Gaborone after they were found in possession of cocaine.
He said two were Batswana while the other suspects were from Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
He appealed to the members of the public to assist them with information that may lead to the arrests of drug dealers.
