Botswana has issued an urgent recall of the popular contraceptive pill Yaz Plus following a packaging error that may render the product ineffective, sparking widespread concerns over unintended pregnancies.
The Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) announced the recall this week citing a mix-up in the sequence and quantity of hormone-containing and hormone-free tablets in the affected batch. The error, discovered by the German pharmaceutical giant Bayer (Pty) Ltd, could compromise the pill’s effectiveness, putting users at risk.
