Website for local artists to be launched next week

Popular local music artists, Lister Boleseng, Gongmaster, Dikakapa and Puna Gabasiane will soon have webpages online, linked and serviced by www.e!funk.biz, a website run by local company 79Poet.

The website, which is marketed by Kagelelo Kemiso, is the company’s answer to an identified niche in the Botswana entertainment industry that has not been serviced to date.
And that is an interactive entertainment website that will also be a database, providing links to promoters, distributors, music stores, record labels, producers and sound engineers.

79Poet argues that the entertainment industry is one of the fastest growing industries “and if statistics were sort and found, evidence that the entertainment sector employs a significant number of the population would surface”.

Amongst the challenges and opportunities, they have recognized the niche in strengthening of client/artist relations through the internet, and take advantage of a wider public on the internet. For any industry, “an online presence is no longer a choice but a necessity in today’s marketplace and culture”.

Giving local arts and entertainment exposure to the international market, providing a low cost marketing solution that would, in turn, help contribute to cultural tourism.

The website will include the following features: artist profiles, music and video previews, gig guides, regular news updates of the entertainment scene, and a music store. The e!funk.biz online store will include both downloads and mail order music.

www.e!funk.biz will be online from May 25, 2009.
