Central Bank Governor, Linah Mohohlo, is expected to speak at the launch of the Global Competitiveness Report 2011-12 next week in Gaborone.
Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC), and the World Economic Forum (WEF), will launch and workshop the 32nd Edition of the Global Competitiveness Report 2011-12 on 7 September 2011.
The relationship between BNPC and the WEF dates back to 2007, when the Centre signed a partnership with the Global Competitiveness Network of the World Economic Forum.
Under the partnership, the Centre conducts the annual National Executive Opinion Survey to provide the necessary input into the preparation of the Global Competitiveness Report. The Report provides participating countries’ competiveness rankings using the Global Competitiveness Index.
This year, BNPC would like to not only launch the Report but also provide a forum for workshopping the results to encourage action by various stakeholders.
Consequently, following the launch, there will be two break away sessions, focusing on Botswana’s Macro Economic Environment and Botswana’s Business Environment in relation to the country’s Global Competitiveness rankings.
The launch and workshop will provide a forum to promote dialogue between the Centre and its stakeholders on Botswana’s competitiveness, both at business and public sector levels.
In particular, the forum will discuss information from the latest Global Competitiveness Reports and consider issues surrounding Botswana’s rankings in international competitiveness in recent years.
The guest speaker at the Launch will be the Governor of Bank of Botswana, Linah Mohohlo.
Invitations to the event have been sent out, with priority given to companies that participated in the Executive Opinion Survey and some key stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the National Strategy Office (NSO), Botswana International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), and the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA).
Meanwhile, the Centre invites businesspersons, companies and other institutions interested in improving the country’s competitiveness to attend the launch. Such entities are requested to register at the Centre.
The launch and workshop will be held at GICC, Gaborone, from 0730hrs to 1300hrs.
