What Bearing Does SA Elections have on Botswana Elections?

This year is a very interesting one in the sense that almost one third of the world goes to elections. This is true when taking into account the number of countries going to election and their population size.

India which is now officially the world’s most populous state after surpassing China has also come out of elections. This has been very interesting in the sense that the ruling BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) failed to score a decisive victory by earning more than 50% of the votes tallied and this has been the ruling party of this subcontinent.

BJP has had to join up with the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) in order that they may form a government. There are different forms of democracies but they all point to one thing; there must be a clear winner. In most democracies, the requirement is always 50%+1. It is only in South Africa where a minority government is permissible.
