In March this year, the president pronounced that retired soldiers would soon get their recalculated pension, this was at a special congress for the ruling Botswana Democratic Party in Palapye. This was the moment that many retired soldiers had been waiting for.
This announcement came as a soothing solution to the many problems that these retirees have been going through. Many of them squarely fell far below the poverty datum line. The cause of their poverty emanates from the fact that their pensions were erroneously calculated at the point of their exit from military service.
