Woman assaulted for asking boyfriend for more house money

Seabeng Moagi, 20, a security guard from Mokakane Ward in Moshupa, was arraigned before the Urban Customary Court President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, for slapping his girlfriend who had allegedly demanded a lot of money from him.
Didimalang Kgajwane, the complainant, told the court that her boyfriend gave another girl a lot of money but said he always gave her P10 or P20 whenever he came to her house. Kganwane said she was assaulted for no other reason but to have complained about the amount of house money she always got from her boyfriend.

Moagi countered by saying that Kgajwane came and proposed to him and he agreed to go out with her. He told the court that she knew that he had another girlfriend and that she was just a ‘spare-wheel’ girlfriend.

When Kgosi Monametsi asked Kgajwane if they were still going out together, she told the court that she did not even want to see Moagi’s face ever again. She said she would not keep someone who gave her P10 every month end.

Monametsi told the court that he agreed with the complainant for not accepting the amount of money she got from her boyfriend and advised her to find herself another boyfriend since Moagi was not showing her any love and was even calling her a spare-wheel.

In mitigation, Moagi begged the court to show mercy since he was working and taking care of another girlfriend he was staying with.

Monametsi sentenced him to one year in jail, wholly suspended for three years, plus four strokes on the bum.
